The popular outdoor movie series – Movies at the Mural Presented by Prime Video – is back this summer at Seattle Center’s Mural Amphitheatre beginning July 24.
Moviegoers are invited to picnic on the Mural Amphitheatre’s gently sloping lawn with the Space Needle as a backdrop, serving as the best outdoor movie setting you can find in Seattle.
Food and beverages will be available in the Seattle Center Armory Food & Event Hall, as well as at food carts on the Seattle Center grounds prior to the start of each showing.
This year’s weekly series features five film favorites, both classic and contemporary, which are fun for all ages – shown on a 40-foot state-of-the-art screen. Each screening will be preceded by a short film created by students at Cornish College of the Arts at Seattle University and alumni of the UW Professional & Continuing Education’s Film & Video Production certificate program. Movies begin at dusk, approximately 9 p.m.
• Wonka, July 24 – In partnership with Bite of Seattle
Willy Wonka is the mastermind behind some of the most delicious and innovative chocolate creations the world has ever seen. But before shaking up the chocolate industry and making a name for himself as a confectionery genius, the ambitious young creator had to defy all odds. • The Princess Bride, July 31 – In keeping with tradition, this beloved classic blends comedy, adventure, romance, and fantasy. Follow peasant farmhand Westley as he battles three bumbling outlaws and a nefarious prince to win the hand of his one true love, a young woman named Buttercup. This popular film comes complete with all the fencing, chasing, escapes, silly accents, and rodents of unusual size you’d expect. Rated PG; runs 1 hour and 38 minutes.
• Hamilton, August 7 – This cultural phenomenon tells the story of America then, by America now. With a groundbreaking score which fuses hip-hop, jazz, R&B, and classic show tunes, Hamilton transforms the life of founding father Alexander Hamilton into a bold, culture-shaping theatrical phenomenon. More than a musical, it has sparked national conversations across art, politics, and education, redefining how history is told on stage. Rated PG-13; runs 2 hours and 40 minutes.
• Coco, August 14 – Despite his family’s baffling generations-old ban on music, Miguel dreams of becoming an accomplished musician like his idol, Ernesto de la Cruz. Desperate to prove his talent, Miguel finds himself in the stunning and colorful Land of the Dead following a mysterious chain of events. Along the way, he meets charming trickster Hector, and together, they set off on an extraordinary journey to unlock the real story behind Miguel’s family history. Rated PG; runs 1 hour and 45 minutes
• Masters of the Universe (1987), August 21 – On Eternia, Skeletor seizes Castle Greyskull and drains the Sorceress’s power in a bid to rule the universe. He‑Man, Man‑at‑Arms, Teela, and inventor Gwildor are transported to Earth by Gwildor’s Cosmic Key, a device Skeletor desperately wants. When teens Julie and Kevin find the Key, Earth becomes the battleground as He‑Man races to stop Skeletor and return home. Rated PG; runs 1 hour and 46 minutes.
